Google lets anyone publish AI Studio-built Android apps to Play Store without the $25 developer fee

Google now allows users 18+ to publish Android apps built with AI Studio directly to the Play Store without a paid developer account. These apps are privately listed—usable only by their creator and invisible in search or recommendations.
Previously, the AI Studio-to-Play route required a one-time $25 developer registration, a completed Play Console profile, and an internal testing track capped at 100 testers, with reviews taking days and commissions on paid in-app services (Apple charges $99/year). AI Studio has been able to generate full Kotlin + Jetpack Compose projects from text prompts since Google I/O in May. Sharing with friends and family is coming in the next few months, and public release still requires the standard developer account and Trust & Safety review.
