Open-Source NIDO Assistant Runs Fully Offline Agent on Phones: Never Let Small Models Improvise
NIDO_007 · reddit · 2026-10-14
A developer is building NIDO, an open-source Android assistant that runs a fully on-device agent with no cloud or API keys, using small local models (0.5B–7B). The core rule: anything with an exact answer goes through a deterministic router (clock reads, conversions, repeating reminders, Bluetooth device-to-device messaging), while the model only handles genuinely open-ended input and asks for clarification instead of hallucinating missing tool parameters. Four alphas shipped covering privacy passes, trilingual phrase routing, a 200-phrase audit, and repeating reminders.
