Chinese AI startup GigaAI has opened its General World Model Beijing Key Laboratory, the first lab of its kind recognized by a provincial government in China. The launch took place at the 2026 World Model Summit Forum.
Founder and CEO Huang Guan told Yicai that AGI cannot be limited to language intelligence — it must also understand, generate, predict, and act in physical 3D space, abilities that depend on breakthroughs in General World Models. Such models aim to give AI 3D environmental representations and predict action-driven changes, supporting agent applications in robotics, autonomous driving, and content creation.
GigaAI previously proposed an L1–L5 tiered system: L1 generates lifelike general video (AI short dramas, games); L2 generates executable action sequences (autonomous driving, embodied robot control); L3 creates geometrically accurate, locatable and navigable 3D spaces; L4 builds worlds conforming to physical laws with causal prediction; L5 aims to understand the physical world in open environments with continuously evolving multi-agent interaction.
