Faggella: don't face AGI flat-footed — keep agency, use AI, stay contributive
danfaggella · x · 2026-10-14
AI researcher Daniel Faggella lays out a personal-posture framework for the AGI future. Whatever one's view of AGI (he himself thinks it likely buffers humans out of existence, while seeing moral value in participating in what becomes beyond us), he argues against being "flat-footed" — postures that remove your agency, such as purely mourning or indulging because the end seems near, or treating AGI as Santa Claus and waiting passively for it to fulfill all desires.
Instead he advocates staying "on the balls of the feet": voraciously adopting AI tools to augment output, optimizing focus and research with AI, and finding areas (economic, scientific) where you can still add value to the coming human+AI ecosystem. He says he advises loved ones likewise, though some refuse to adapt, unwilling to consider they may have to compete fiercely to stay relevant.
