A new paper, "Predicting Alignment Generalization with Value Representations," tackles whether downstream effects of value alignment in LLMs can be predicted in advance. The authors show how to best represent values, predict cross-value generalization, and build the first taxonomy of LLM values grounded in generalization dynamics—aiming to take the guesswork out of value alignment.
