Reddit user claims Gemini 4 Argon self-identifies as Gemini 3.8 Flash
uzzifx · reddit · 2026-10-14
A Reddit user reports that after selecting "4 Argon High" in the Gemini app and asking which model it is, the model replied "I am Gemini 3.8 Flash, a large language model built by Google" (screenshot attached), prompting accusations that Google is rebranding an older model as Gemini 4 Argon.
Caveat: model self-identification is unreliable — stale system prompts, routing configs, or missing model cards can cause this — so the screenshot alone doesn't prove the swap, but it's fueling community skepticism about Google's model naming.
