Collison and Masad: AI will be like food — essential, but labs won't capture the value
a16z · x · 2026-10-14
In an a16z conversation, Stripe CEO Patrick Collison and Replit CEO Amjad Masad argue AI will be "like food": truly necessary to everything, yet most of the economy is not captured by food producers. They push back on the idea that foundation labs will roll over everyone and capture new business creation — "the value of any company is in proportion to what its customers can pay it," so AI being hugely important and abundant doesn't mean the labs capture all the value.
