A call to use local LLMs to break device locks and build a right-to-repair SFT dataset
cephaloform · x · 2026-10-14
A developer argues that John Deere, Apple and others' anti-repair restrictions are unjust, and hopes capable local models will soon bypass artificial device restrictions so people can repair what they own. He proposes a community effort: use large models to break into locked devices, create interaction protocols, and upload raw traces to build an open SFT dataset. It's an idea solicitation with no concrete implementation yet.
