Prime Intellect, Valued at $1B, Acquires Moondream to Speed Up Open Model Inference
himanshustwts · x · 2026-10-14
Prime Intellect, a neocloud valued at $1 billion in a July equity financing, is acquiring Moondream, a sub-10-person San Francisco/Seattle startup known for an open-source vision-language model and backed with $4.5 million. CEO Vincent Weisser declined to share terms, saying the deal is largely for the team's skill in writing software that makes models run more efficiently — aiming to run open models faster and cheaper on its Nvidia servers than rivals. Commenters called it a rare acquisition that genuinely benefits both sides.
