Director Kim Sung-soo's AI Short 'Warm Train' Is 70% Done — and the Cut Between Shots Is the Real Craft
lmoroney · x · 2026-10-14
Director Kim Sung-soo (Asura, 12.12: The Day) detailed his Kafka-inspired short 'Warm Train' at Busan's Asia Contents & Film Market: paused in March, the film only worked when a Kling 4.0 preview made the insect-crowd collision feel weighty; it's now 70% complete. He staffed it like a set — VFX supervisor, four young artists, animation art director, live-action editor, music director — reviewing performance, camera, lighting and movement daily. His exercise for students: generate two adjacent shots for one scene, then spend as long on the cut between them as on either shot; keep it only if the cut still carries story.
