Spring AI talk demo code: one Spring Boot app, four stops from ChatClient to agents via MCP
therealdanvega · x · 2026-10-14
Spring Developer Advocate Dan Vega open-sourced the demo code for his dev2next 2026 talk "Spring AI: There and Back Again." One Spring Boot app progresses through four Lord-of-the-Rings-themed stops, each with its own git branch:
- 01-shire: ChatClient, system prompts, streaming, structured output into a Java record
- 02-bree: tools — the model checks today's date and the weather
- 03-rivendell: MCP — use a filesystem MCP server and expose your own tools as an MCP server
- 04-mordor: an agent that plans a route given a goal
The main branch has the finished app — a clean on-ramp for Java developers into Spring AI.
