RustGIS lands on PyPI: pure-Rust open-source GIS now runs inside Jupyter
giswqs · x · 2026-10-13
- RustGIS released a Python package: pip install rustgis brings the pure-Rust GIS engine into Python and the full app into Jupyter notebooks, with no server required.
- RustGIS is a fast, free, open-source GIS for mapping, analyzing, and sharing geospatial data, running natively on Windows, macOS, Linux, and in the browser.
- From Python you can drive the engine in-process: open data, run geoprocessing tools, style layers, and render maps; layers convert bidirectionally to/from GeoPandas GeoDataFrames.
- The whole app (ribbon, panes, map) can run in a single notebook cell; data stays local unless sent to an AI model of your choice, and every action is a scriptable command.
