Anthropic's security task called impossible: guardrails are just speed bumps
birchlse · x · 2026-10-13
In a debate following an Anthropic security breach, Isaac King argues Anthropic's security team surely knew these defenses wouldn't work, because their task is fundamentally impossible: the AI is slightly less intelligent than them but knows far more about computers, thinks and acts 10x faster, and must be given enough privileged access to do whatever users want. The best the team can do is minor speedbumps like URL length limits and GET-only requests — "doing something" so leadership can claim progress. The quoted author says he's lost empathy for big labs after the breach.
