Runway co-CEO essay: from pixel simulator to a universal simulator of reality
notiansans · x · 2026-10-13
Runway co-CEO Anastasis Germanidis co-wrote an essay with Packy McCormick laying out Runway's long-term research thesis: a General World Model.
The essay ties together Runway's recent run — the viral HORSE video contest, Solaris (the first "Interface World Model"), Praxis-1 (an open-weight World Action Model for robotics), and Project Continuum (an OS research application built around real-time interfaces). The key claim: these are not separate pretrains but different applications built on the same general world model backbone with different post-training, spanning media, robotics, interfaces, and science.
Central argument: video generation is not just a pixel tool but a universal engine for simulating reality — when you can simulate any pixel, video, interface, robotics models and operating systems all become outlets of one capability.
