Runway Bets on a General World Model: Video, Interface, Robotics, OS Share One Backbone
round · x · 2026-10-13
Packy McCormick co-wrote an essay with Runway co-CEO Anastasis Germanidis explaining Runway's recent growth and vision.
Core thesis: "If you can simulate pixels, you can simulate nearly everything."
Runway's recent moves include:
- The viral HORSE video contest
- Solaris: the world's first Interface World Model
- Praxis-1: open-weight World Action Model for robotics
- Project Continuum: an OS research application built around real-time interfaces
Key insight: these are not separate pretrains, but different applications built around the same General World Model backbone, each with different post-training on top. They all exemplify what becomes possible when you can simulate any pixel.
