'AI is software, not a garden': researcher pushes back on mystical industry narratives
gerardsans · x · 2026-10-13
Responding to what he sees as mythical storytelling around AI statistics — including from Anthropic and other labs — Gerard Sans argues AI is simply software: a text sampler programmed via statistics, first through training data and later custom reinforcement learning. It's gradient descent, and that's how labs ship new features and move from chatbots to agents. His takeaway: "Learn the technology, drop the narrative. Data compression, not a garden."
