Runway added $100M ARR in a quarter as its world model bet spans video, interfaces, OS and robots
Not Boring (Packy McCormick) · rss · 2026-10-13
Packy McCormick co-writes a long-form essay with Runway co-CEO Anastasis Germanidis unpacking the company's world model strategy.
Six weeks of releases:
- Sept 1: Solaris, the "first Interface World Model" generating real-time interactive interfaces
- Sept 8: acquisition of Paris robotics lab Kinetix
- Sept 30: Praxis-1, an open-weight World Action Model turning video pre-training into robot control; Standard Bots is deploying it on arms
- Oct 1: Project Continuum, an operating system research preview built on real-time video interfaces
The thesis: these aren't separate pretrains but applications of one General World Model backbone with different post-training. Robotics data is scarce; video is near-infinite — pre-train on video, then let robotics developers fine-tune for specific embodiments.
Business: Runway added over $100M ARR last quarter, its fastest growth ever. The four-chapter roadmap: media/entertainment → broader content → robotics (now) → science. McCormick argues world models that learn from third-person observation, like babies do, could do things LLMs can't.
