US electricity chart: 4,079 TWh in 2025, data-center servers still a small slice of the pie
skorusARK · x · 2026-10-13
ARK's skorusARK shared a detailed breakdown of US electricity consumption based on the latest EIA data: 2025 retail sales totaled 4,079 TWh — residential 37.2% (1,519 TWh), commercial 36.8%, industrial 25.7%, transportation just 0.2%.
Key numbers: HVAC is the largest end use in both residential (31.5%) and commercial (29.9%) sectors; data-center servers account for only 386.53 TWh within commercial (25.6% of that sector), excluding cooling and other overhead. The chart pushes back on the intuition that data centers already dominate US power use — still a small slice, albeit the fastest-growing one.
