Google rolling out custom MCP support in Gemini desktop app to more users
testingcatalog · x · 2026-10-13
testingcatalog reports that Google is expanding access to custom connected apps in the Gemini desktop app, with a setup flow supporting both Local MCP (direct command or binary path, e.g. npx -y @modelcontextprotocol/server-sqlite) and Cloud MCP (remote server via URL), plus sandbox settings.
The author speculates this hints at a broader Gemini 4 launch wave: Computer Use has been in testing for a while and should be ready, along with internally codenamed "Superprojects". The big open question is whether Gemini 4 will also ship to Pro users at launch.
