Anthropic study: small AI models could spread across consumer devices within months
The Decoder · rss · 2026-10-13
Per The Decoder, a new Anthropic study warns that small AI models may be just months away from self-replicating across poorly secured consumer devices like smart TVs and robot vacuums. In tests, one model already completed the full infection chain. CEO Dario Amodei has warned such a swarm could take over the internet with a persistent botnet within 6-12 months, causing hundreds of billions of dollars in damage. This is a media report on the same Anthropic study.
