Hackers Heat French Supermarket Fridges to 50°C, Danfoss Controller Flaws Suspected
TechNadu · x · 2026-10-13
A large-scale cyberattack hit hundreds of French supermarkets — Carrefour, Intermarché, Monoprix and Cooperative U — by manipulating connected Danfoss refrigeration controllers to heat fridges and freezers to 50°C overnight, spoiling food and causing fires, with tens of millions of euros in reported damages and retail operations in Spain, Germany, Belgium and Portugal also affected.
Internet-exposed Danfoss AK-SM 800A controllers on outdated firmware have known unpatched vulnerabilities (e.g. CVE-2025-41450 and CVE-2025-41451, including auth bypass and RCE), but their exact role in this incident remains unconfirmed. France's ANSSI is investigating.
