Blogger gefei55 recalls hiding his WeChat ID as a watermark in a widely reposted tweet; reposters copied it along with the content, and a YouTube video even displayed it, driving a stream of friend requests — some viewers thought the video was his. He later changed the ID while testing WeChat's rules and lost the lead source forever. He also admits he spotted the API-reseller money-making opportunity back in December 2022 but didn't act on it.
