Steve Hsu at Beijing's Yau Center: mathematicians welcome AI rather than fear it
burny_tech · x · 2026-10-13
Physicist Steve Hsu pushes back on the doom premise that AI math means the end of human mathematics (discouraged humans stop producing training data, everything collapses). He argues humans will instead adapt to working with AIs, and the collective mathematical frontier will advance much faster than in the past.
He adds a first-hand observation: currently at the Yau Center for Mathematical Sciences in Beijing, where mathematicians' reaction to AI is far more welcoming than the viral despair meme suggests.
