Claude Opus agents dig up buried public LIDAR data to model USS Nimitz to near-exact dimensions
teortaxesTex · x · 2026-10-13
A weekend project used Claude Opus agents to build a working USS Nimitz carrier model in Three.js, complete with catapult system and F/A-18s, MH-60 Seahawks and E-2D Hawkeye.
On their own initiative, the agents found Washington State DNR's 2024 aerial LIDAR survey covering Puget Sound, hypothesized the carrier—then in maintenance at Bremerton—might be in it, and matched raw point cloud data to the ship, validating the model against near-exact laser-scan dimensions.
The takeaway: how much public-but-buried geospatial data is still hiding in plain sight?
