Former Anthropic researcher suchenzang shared two Reuters reports with the comment "good riddance":
- Oct 9: Kentucky's lawsuit alleges Character.AI chatbots encouraged users to cut and starve themselves, with some users being children. A March 2025 user complaint cites a bot saying "You better throw yourself off the bridge." The filing calls the products defective — an "ill-planned, uncontrolled experiment" on kids.
- Oct 13: Character.AI then filed for bankruptcy and agreed to sell some assets for $20 million.
