China is 2.7x more exposed to chip shortages than the US, study finds

An Eponch AI research analysis finds semiconductors account for a far larger share of Chinese spending: for every $1,000 spent, $15.2 ultimately pays for chips in China versus $5.7 in the US — a 2.7x exposure gap.
The gap widens for neighboring producers: 4.7x for Taiwan-made chips, 4.0x for South Korea's, and 3.6x for Japan's. Domestic Chinese producers covered 23% of chip demand in 2022, up from 12% in 2016, but still lag in advanced processors and stacked memory.
