Per reporting by Julia Hornstein (The Information), VCs are now securing compute on behalf of their portfolio startups as AI servers get scarce: a16z has discussed partnering with GPU cloud Volta and data center operator Switch to expand its cluster, while General Catalyst has been working on securing a data center. Compute access is becoming a VC value-add as scarcity spreads from big labs to early-stage startups.
