Veteran of 30 years in Photoshop: AI clones of legacy mega-apps will please no one
ssh4net · x · 2026-10-13
Responding to @rms80's jab that using a "magic coding robot" to clone mediocre desktop mega-apps is a waste of tokens, developer ssh4net — who has used Photoshop and Illustrator daily for three decades — agrees.
He argues these apps are a huge legacy of workarounds built in the late 90s and early 2000s, intelligible mainly to people from that era. Any AI clone would capture only a tiny fraction of the functionality and miss the UX entirely. He wouldn't recommend learning these tools today unless working with seniors who refuse newer methods.
His verdict: both new and old users will ignore such clones — aspire to build better things with your tokens instead.
