Video as Code: a 3D animation engine built for agents
Academa Labs open-sourced ManimGX, a high-speed drop-in alternative to 3Blue1Brown's Manim, designed for AI coding agents:
- Speed: claims 90× faster than ManimCE, with a Rust + wgpu core
- Compatibility: works with Manim's Python API, so migration is cheap
- Lightweight: single pip install, no system dependencies
- Open source: code on GitHub (academa-labs/manimgx), docs at manimgx.academa.ai
The core thesis: "for 40 years we built GUIs for humans; now we build APIs for agents" — i.e. Video as Code, where agents produce video/animation via code APIs instead of GUIs.
You can hand its llms.txt to any coding agent and try, e.g. asking it to generate a 3D solar system animation and open it.
