Sentry CEO pushes back on 'AI makes software free': $500k/yr SaaS contracts unchanged
zeeg · x · 2026-10-13
Sentry CEO David Cramer rebuts the claim that free open-source software generated by AI will kill the market for paid tools. Most money is in enterprise software, not niche consumer apps; $5 one-off apps were already hard to monetize; and $500k/yr SaaS contracts haven't changed at all. Code generation is a small part of building software—customers pay SaaS for maintenance, reliability and ongoing development.
