Applied Materials CEO Gary Dickerson highlighted yield innovation as one of the most important moments he has seen in the semiconductor equipment industry, declaring "Semiconductor Industry 2.0" is coming.
His slides framed the AI compute race along two axes: a technology race (device/chip and system/packaging innovation driving tokens/sec/watt) and a capacity race (fab yield/output and new fab ramp velocity), with Applied Materials' leverage coming from materials, integration, and yield innovation.
