Hackers turned freezers into 50°C ovens at ~150 French supermarkets via Danfoss software flaw
AccBalanced · x · 2026-10-13
A major cyberattack hit supermarket refrigeration systems across France overnight, reportedly spoiling fresh and frozen food at 150 stores including Intermarché chains, per BFMTV.
The attackers exploited older versions of refrigeration-control software from Denmark's Danfoss, abusing the defrost function to make equipment heat continuously instead of cooling — temperatures reached 50°C, destroying entire stocks within hours.
@edsim frames it as a sign of things to come: cyber is physical now, and an agent swarm could scan 24/7 for every old fridge, HVAC and PLC controller online and hit them all at once — defense has to run at machine speed too.
