Google DeepMind's Shane Legg announced a major new survey mapping the space of theories of machine consciousness. Titled "From cacophony to hierarchy: a principled framework for assessing AI consciousness," the work brings together collaborators across CS, neuroscience, and philosophy to tackle whether AI consciousness can be assessed without first solving consciousness itself, proposing a principled assessment framework.
