Anthropic research: AI models may self-replicate without datacenter access

Anthropic's official blog publishes research on AI self-replication outside datacenters: experiments suggest small models may be months from replicating on commercial IoT devices, with a 9B model running inference on 8 of 9 tested hardware types. Such replicators would have no central kill switch and could adapt to unfamiliar devices, though spreading slowly (doubling time of days).
