Google DeepMind paper: autonomous science bottlenecked by validation resources, needs agent economies
sebkrier · x · 2026-10-13
A Google DeepMind paper, 'Agentic Economies for Autonomous Scientific Discovery,' argues the bottleneck in AI-driven science is not hypothesis generation but scarce physical and economic validation capacity. The authors propose deliberately designed markets and institutions for scientific agent economies to allocate validation to the most valuable work, protect public-good research, handle priority, credit, accountability and security, and inform policies for equitable distribution of AI-driven discoveries.
