Google launches universal Gemini work agent across Workspace, M365 and Slack with model routing
rseroter · x · 2026-10-13
Google Cloud launched the Gemini agent at Gemini at Work 2026: a universal work agent you give objectives instead of instructions, running across Google Workspace, Microsoft 365 and Slack, routing jobs between Gemini and Anthropic Claude models.
Futurum argues the key move is separating the agent from the model — more important than any single feature:
- Coworker agents get their own identities, mailboxes and calendars, raising governance and per-seat pricing questions
- Persistent cloud memory, reachable from web, mobile, desktop, CLI and headlessly in third-party apps
- Described as the most complete enterprise agent design from a hyperscaler, with identity, policy, cost control, memory and model choice built in
Google's rseroter endorsed the analysis. Competitive pressure lands on Microsoft, Salesforce, OpenAI and Anthropic.
