BudgetPix: adaptive tokenization matches pixel diffusion fidelity with just 25% of the compute
Ozgur Kara · hf · 2026-10-13
Researchers from UIUC and Google propose BudgetPix, a compute-adaptive tokenization framework for pixel-space image diffusion. An entropy-guided quadtree encoder, scale-aware decoder, and flexible training schedule let a single checkpoint operate across compute budgets: matching MiniT2I-L at 512² and PixelDiT at 1024² with 25% of the compute, and near-zero quality loss (FID +0.8) at 60% budget on a MeanFlow backbone.
