TheZvi polls: ~75% say AI will become a moral patient in their lifetime
TheZvi · x · 2026-10-13
Zvi Mowshowitz compares two completed polls:
- "Will there exist an AI that is a moral patient within your lifetime?" (936 votes): Definitely yes 22.3% + Probably yes 52.5%, 74.8% positive.
- "Does there exist a publicly available AI that is a moral patient?" (422 votes): Probably not 55.2% + Definitely not 30.1%, over 85% say no.
Takeaway: most respondents see AI moral status as a matter of time rather than impossibility, while agreeing today's models haven't crossed that line.
