Fork-and-Flush: a simple fix for autoresearch agents stuck in idea basins
DimitrisPapail · x · 2026-10-13
Independent runs of the same autoresearch agent plateau at different scores, and more compute doesn't close the gap — agents get tunnel vision even with context compaction. Researchers propose fork-and-flush: periodically fork the agent into T copies sharing the workspace but with fresh chat contexts, let them run, then continue from the best one — akin to basin hopping in gradient descent, and it works well.
