Inside Ramp, Shopify, Snap, Stripe and Uber's software factories: agents write 3/4 of Ramp's merged PRs

Port aggregates public accounts of 'software factories'—architectures where AI agents carry work from queue to verified production change. Ramp: 4 engineers + 1 part-time PM built a background agent authoring 3 of 4 merged PRs with human-equivalent tool access. Shopify: a Slack-native agent coauthors 1 in 8 merged PRs, with a security harness requiring proof by exploit. Snap: three-part pipeline (Casper/CodePal/Code Search), with half of agent investment going to guardrails. Stripe: one-shot agents on a forked Goose, gated by two-round CI caps and a shared 500-tool internal MCP server. Uber: six platform layers, an agent registry tracing every action to a person. Key idea: a factory is an architecture—pipes, queues, and unskippable gates matter more than the agents themselves.
