MIT's Phillip Isola shared a long-dreamt-of result from his student Dominik: unpaired translation between images and text, which works far better than expected — "you don't have to squint." Stanford's Christopher Manning amplified it, noting LLMs' world models and visual "world models" may not be as different as many think — significant empirical evidence for the debate over whether LLMs genuinely understand the world.
