Defining teal vs cyan vs aqua scientifically: moultano draws the color boundaries
moultano · x · 2026-10-12
In a thread about distinguishing teal, cyan, turquoise and aqua, moultano proposes scientific definitions: cyan should be the exact midpoint between blue and green in human color perception, with aqua covering the range bluer than that. He adds that water absorbs blue least, so cyan can claim the blue half, while teal—named after a duck's iridescent head stripe—has no unambiguous reference color and is hardest to resolve.
