Railway's internal app lesson: one-shot SaaS replacements aren't production-ready
AI Engineer · youtube · 2026-10-12
At AI Engineer, Mahmoud Abdelwahab of Railway explained how he used coding agents to build an internal app covering marketing content, email, social posts, creator relationships and launch planning — and why a quick SaaS replacement isn't enough.
- Start from a structured codebase with reusable abstractions so new features follow existing patterns
- Explicitly request product polish: non-blocking autosave, optimistic updates with recovery, undo/archiving, URL state for shareable filtered views, infinite scrolling
- Point the agent at existing pages to reuse UI and data-fetching conventions, and package recurring preferences into agent skills
- Run a verification loop that exercises the feature end-to-end in the running app — passing tests can still ship a broken experience
He notes these are practical lessons from an internal tool, without claims of measured financial savings.
