Fields medalist Shing-Tung Yau spearheaded the launch of the Yau Laboratory Alliance for Mathematics and AI in Beijing, uniting 8 leading institutions and aiming to build a network of over 1,000 scientists. The alliance will develop specialized AI models for mathematics, use AI to generate conjectures and formalize proofs, and build systems with more interpretable reasoning. Yau warned that China is lagging behind the US in applying AI to frontier science.
