UK's AISI Outlines Technical Best Practices for Safe Frontier AI Development
HaydnBelfield · x · 2026-10-12
The UK AI Security Institute (AISI) has laid out its view of the challenges facing frontier AI developers and the technical practices most urgently needed, delivering on the Prime Minister's September 22 commitment to principles and standards for securely developing the most capable AI systems.
AISI argues rapid capability progress has outpaced existing risk-management practices, with risks now emerging earlier, during development itself. Drawing on three years of testing and evaluating frontier models, it proposes new technical practices and controls to be developed with industry, potentially informing formal standards later.
AISI says it won't mandate requirements but will contribute expertise to an industry-wide effort, welcoming developers' recent commitments including via the White House Accord on Super Intelligence.
