Speaking with Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff at Dreamforce, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said AI companies should expect accidents as increasingly capable models are deployed: "Regrettably, accidents with any new technology are unavoidable."
He urged the industry to build a culture of openly reporting and learning from incidents, comparing the approach to aviation, where regulators and companies investigate accidents and use findings to improve system-wide safety. Altman expressed confidence the industry can keep safety ahead of capability and police itself.
