Generative engineering: orchestrating multiple AI agents across the engineering process
TinfoilTricorn · x · 2026-10-12
An engineering practitioner describes "generative engineering," a workflow beyond simply asking AI to write code:
- Start with an idea for a software system, scientific simulation, or physical engineering problem; work through architecture, constraints, and existing solutions with AI
- Different models/agents handle different phases: one develops architecture, another stress-tests it, others implement components and independently evaluate results
- Several agents can work on different parts in parallel; AI systems also review and improve the instructions other AI systems will execute
- The prompts themselves become core engineering artifacts (thread truncated)
