AWS open-sources Strands Decider 2B, a tiny low-latency decision model
gleech · x · 2026-10-12
AWS's strands-labs released Strands Decider 2B, a small open-source decision model for fast experimentation and local development, part of a new class of "decision models" gaining attention since TypeSafe AI's Jev. Unlike LLMs, these models only pick between options and assign numeric scores in a single parallel pass—trading flexibility for very low latency and guaranteed answers, but far worse at complex reasoning and unsuitable for coding or chat. Unique perk: per-decision reliability scores unavailable via frontier LLM APIs.
