Open-source sift-light 1.1.0 keeps exact text evidence authoritative over semantic search for agents

The maintainer of sift-light, a free open-source local search and MCP tool for coding agents, shipped v1.1.0. The core design keeps two retrieval lanes: exact text evidence stays authoritative, semantic candidates are opt-in and can't displace literal matches, and retained results can be re-inspected against the original file so edits become visible instead of silently stale. On Apple Silicon the same boundary extends to image queries and scanned PDF pages with original page numbers. A BYO HTTP JSON contract lets users plug in remote judge/vision services for ranking without outsourcing source verification. The most valuable tests were negative ones: stale source rejection, unknown remote file IDs, oversized media payloads, cancelled workers, and pagination that doesn't rerun searches. The author invites critique of the "relevant vs verified" boundary.
