Codex capabilities mysteriously degraded for 2 weeks, developer burns 62K credits and defects to Claude
LuciFerrum-Music · reddit · 2026-10-12
A developer who built his entire project on OpenAI Codex ($200 sub) reports a sharp decline over the past two weeks: stalling on every turn, requiring automatic reminders, and worse — silently breaking previously working systems, with core service functionality failing bit by bit and finished systems vanishing.
He fought back with heavy process engineering: a Notion single source of truth, per-lane documentation, a roadmap with clear definitions of done, plus Dispatcher (coordination) and Orchestra (supervision) lanes and skills like codesearch and code discipline. Some lanes even started rejecting the Dispatcher's authority. After 2 resets and 62K credits burned last week with no fix, he added 3,500 more credits just to prep a handoff to Claude and salvage the main service. He asks if others hit similar issues recently.
